Studio Etiquette

Creating Sacred Space Together

At Prana Hot Yoga, we've cultivated more than just a fitness studio – we've created a sanctuary where people come to reconnect with themselves, find peace, and build strength. This special atmosphere exists because every member of our community helps maintain it. These guidelines ensure everyone enjoys a safe, respectful, and transformative experience.

General Studio Guidelines

Arriving & Entering

Punctuality is Essential

Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class to settle in. Once class begins, doors are closed for everyone's safety and to maintain the sacred space. Late arrivals cannot be admitted – this protects the meditative environment and ensures you don't miss the essential warm-up.

Enter with Intention

As you step through our doors, you're entering a space dedicated to wellness and mindfulness. Take a moment to leave the outside world behind. Store your belongings quietly in the cubbies or lockers, and move through the studio with awareness of others who may already be centring themselves.

Shoes & Street Energy

We're a barefoot studio. Please remove shoes in the entry area and store them in designated spaces. This keeps our practice spaces clean and symbolically helps you leave the outside world at the door.

Yoga Classes: Sacred Silence

Our yoga rooms are silent spaces from the moment you enter. This isn't just about being quiet – it's about creating an environment where everyone can turn inward without distraction.

  • Before Class: Enter quietly, roll out your mat mindfully, and use the time to center yourself
  • During Practice: Focus on your breath and movement; if you must leave, do so between poses
  • After Class: Remain in final savasana until the instructor closes the practice, then roll your mat quietly

Mat Placement Matters
Line up the left side of your mat with your chosen number. This ensures everyone has adequate space and maintains the energy flow of the room. If you're unsure about placement, our staff is happy to help before class begins.

Fitness Classes: Community Energy

Our Barre, Sculpt, and other fitness classes thrive on different energy! Here, encouragement, conversation, and collective motivation are welcome and encouraged.

  • Chat with neighbours before class
  • Cheer each other on during challenging segments
  • Celebrate victories together
  • Build connections with your fitness community

The energy in these classes is part of what makes them special – just be mindful of the instructor's cues when it's time to focus.

  • Phone-Free Zone

We are committed to maintaining a phone-free environment in all practice spaces. This policy protects everyone's privacy and preserves the meditative quality of our studio.

    • Leave phones in lockers or cubbies – not in the practice room
    • Emergency calls: Step outside the studio entirely
    • Photos: Wait until the room is completely clear of other members
    • Social media: We love when you share your journey! Just ensure you have consent from anyone visible in photos
  • Scent Sensitivity

The heat amplifies fragrances dramatically. What might be subtle outside becomes overwhelming in our heated rooms, and many people have sensitivities or allergies.

    Please avoid:

    • Perfumes and colognes
    • Heavily scented lotions or oils
    • Strong-smelling deodorants (unscented preferred)
    • Essential oils applied before class

If you've already applied products, consider wiping down with an unscented towel before entering the hot room.

  • Personal Hygiene

While we avoid added scents, natural cleanliness is important for everyone's comfort:

    • Come to class clean and fresh
    • Bring a towel to manage sweat during practice
    • Use our showers if coming straight from work or other activities
    • Keep feet clean and toenails trimmed for everyone's safety

Equipment & Props

Mat Care

  • Personal mats: Clean your mat before and after practice using our provided spray
  • Rental mats: Are sanitized between uses, but feel free to give them an extra spray
  • Spacing: Maintain at least an arm's length from neighbouring mats

Props & Equipment

  • Return all props (blocks, straps, bolsters) to their designated spots
  • Wipe down any equipment you've used with provided sanitizing wipes
  • Report any damaged equipment to staff immediately
  • Treat all studio property with respect – this keeps costs down for everyone
