Frequently Asked Questions

Because Every Body Deserves to Feel Prepared

Whether you're curious about the heat, wondering what to wear, or have specific health concerns, we've got you covered. These are the questions we hear most often from new and current students, so if you're wondering about it, you'll find the answer below.

Getting Started

I've never done yoga before. Is hot yoga safe for beginners?

Absolutely! Many of our members started their yoga journey right here in our heated studio. The warmth actually makes yoga more accessible for beginners because your muscles are more pliable, reducing the risk of injury. Our instructors are trained to offer modifications for every pose, and you're always encouraged to rest whenever you need to. We recommend starting with our gentler classes like Warm Yin or Hot Foundations.

Which class should I choose for my first visit?

Choosing your first class depends on your goals and comfort level:

🧘‍♀️ New to yoga or our studio? Start with Yin Yoga. This gentle practice holds supported poses for 3-5 minutes, helping you acclimate to the heat while relaxing your fascia (connective tissue). Perfect for all ages and body types.

🌿 Want light movement? Try Gentle Flow, Flow & Stretch, Mindful Movement Yoga, or Strength & Mobility Flow. These introduce basic postures and transitions without feeling overwhelming.

💪 Prefer fitness-style workouts? Check out Barre or Sculpt classes for high-energy sessions blending yoga, strength training, and cardio.

🧩 Want core focus? Pilates offers lower-impact work that builds foundations benefiting all areas of fitness and daily life.

🔥 Ready to level up? Once you've built confidence, explore Ashtanga or Power Flow – our most physically demanding classes.

What's the difference between your infrared heating and regular hot yoga?

Traditional hot yoga studios use forced-air heating that heats the air around you, which can feel stifling. Our FAR-infrared panels heat your body directly, like lying in the sun. This means you get all the benefits of hot yoga – increased flexibility, detoxification, and calorie burn – while still being able to breathe comfortably. Many people who couldn't tolerate traditional hot yoga thrive in our infrared environment.

How hot does it actually get?

Our Sun Room is heated to approximately 95-105°F (35-40°C) depending on the class type. The Moon Room is unheated, staying at regular room temperature. Remember, infrared heat feels different than traditional heat – it's warming without being suffocating.

What if I'm not flexible?

Perfect! Flexibility is a result of yoga, not a requirement. We truly believe every body is a yoga body. The heat helps even the stiffest bodies find more range of motion than they thought possible. You'll be amazed at how quickly you progress.

Preparing for Class

What should I wear?

Wear moisture-wicking, form-fitting clothing that you can move and sweat in comfortably:

  • Women typically wear sports bras with shorts or leggings
  • Men usually wear shorts with or without a fitted shirt
  • Avoid baggy clothing that might get in your way
  • You'll sweat a lot, so less is often more!
  • Looking for the perfect hot yoga outfit? Check out our Vuori collection in the boutique- their moisture-wicking fabrics are ideal for hot yoga.*

What should I bring?

  • Water bottle (32oz minimum recommended)
  • Yoga mat (or rent one for $2)
  • Large towel to cover your mat (rental available for $2)
  • Small hand towel for sweat
  • Change of clothes (you'll want fresh clothes after!)

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive 15 minutes before your first class. This gives you time to complete our waiver, get a tour, set up your space, and acclimate to the heat. For regular classes, we recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early. Late arrivals cannot be admitted once class begins for safety reasons and to maintain the peaceful environment.

Should I eat before class?

Avoid large meals 2-3 hours before class. A light snack (like a banana or handful of dates) 30-60 minutes before is fine if you need energy. Hydration is more important – start drinking extra water the day before your class.

During Class

What if I can't do all the poses?

That's completely normal and expected! Our instructors offer multiple modifications for every pose. Listen to your body, take breaks whenever needed, and remember that just being in the room is benefiting you. Child's pose is always available as a resting position.

Can I leave the room if it's too much?

While we encourage you to stay in the room (even if lying down) to allow your body to acclimate, your safety comes first. If you must leave, do so quietly and return when you're ready. Most people find that by their second or third class, they can stay the entire time comfortably.

Why do I feel dizzy/nauseous?

This can happen in your first few classes as your body adjusts to the heat. It's usually related to dehydration or pushing too hard. If you feel unwell, sit or lie down immediately. Focus on your breath, sip water, and know that this feeling will pass. Make sure you're well-hydrated before your next class.

Is it normal to feel emotional during or after class?

Yes! Yoga can release stored emotions and stress from the body. It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed, tearful, or even euphoric. This is part of the healing process and a sign that the practice is working on more than just a physical level.

Health & Safety

Who shouldn't do hot yoga?

Please consult your doctor before practicing if you:

  • Are pregnant (we offer prenatal classes in our Moon Room)
  • Have heart conditions or high blood pressure
  • Have had recent surgery or injury
  • Are on medications that affect heat tolerance
  • Have any concerns about exercising in heat

Is hot yoga safe during pregnancy?

If you had a regular hot yoga practice before pregnancy, you may be able to continue with modifications and your doctor's approval. However, we recommend our unheated prenatal classes in the Moon Room for expecting mothers. Always consult your healthcare provider first.

Explore our unheated Moon Room classes for gentler practice options.

How often should I practice?

For beginners, we recommend 2-3 times per week to allow your body to recover between sessions. As you build strength and stamina, you can increase frequency. Many of our regular members practice 4-6 times per week. Listen to your body – it will tell you what it needs.

Will hot yoga help me lose weight?

While hot yoga can burn 400-600 calories per session and boost metabolism, we focus on the many other benefits: increased flexibility, stress reduction, better sleep, improved strength, and mental clarity. Weight loss may occur, but we encourage focusing on how you feel rather than the scale.
